PIERMICHEL BOZETTI, known to Italo disco fans as MIKO MISSION, is one of the most notable and legendary representatives of the style. The Italo Disco music genre comprises a hundred more or less known names, many of those artists having released a few singles only. Miko Mission also belongs to those non-album stars, but, owing to a number of factors, he became an Italo disco legend, together with such names as Savage, Valerie Dore, Scotch, P. Lion What factors are we talking about? Above all, it is necessary to point at talented and prominent song-writers, who co-operated with Miko Mission, the artists outstanding vocal and his handsome look (on stage as well as on single sleeves, posters and in video clips the artist looks pretty attractive, with an extreme make-up and in a bright stage costume. The first famous title sung by Piermichel Bozetti, was called Starman. The artist recorded it under the pseudonym of Loopside in 1983. In 1984 the artist, under the name of Miko Mission, released the classical Italo disco hit How old are you? , and a little later there appeared another masterpiece the single The world is you (by the same authors, but with a participation of the prominent S. Zanini and P. Bozetti himself) . It is necessary to note, that both songs turned out to sound extremely alike, but both of them were included in the major compilations of the genre and easily became on top of the Sleazy Italo style, side by side with the hits from Gazebo, Savage, My Mine and Valerie Dore. With the success of Miko Missions first hits, other songs, created in a similar style, experienced popularity. A bright example of this was Dial my number by R. Bais, also authored by G. Pegoraro. Miko Mission recorded his subsequent singles not making any considerable haste. In 1985 he released Two for love (Baldoni-Verdi-Zambelli-Pegoraro) , another famous song, included, like the two previous titles, into the Best of Italo Disco series from ZYX, in 1986 Striptease, in 1987 Toc toc toc and I like a womans heart. At that time Miko Mission co-operated with a very famous and popular duo of Mauro Farina and Giuliano Crivellente, who authored Toc toc toc, also included in the newest Best of Italo Disco release . Simultaneously, Piermichel Bozetti records the song Ring the bell under the multi-vocal Alan Barry project, directed by Farina. Piermichel Bozetti began to take active part in writing songs for himself and, beyond that, to write music in co-authorship for other Italo disco projects, for instance, Mr. Black (Monalisa). The next singles were I believe (1988), One step to heaven (1989), Rock me around the world (1989). An album was not recorded due to the lack of material, and also because the sound of the songs, written between 1984 and 1989, was not suitable for a modern and consistent compilation. Nevertheless, those, who desire to have the entire Miko Missions collection on one CD (the same is valid for K. B. Caps, T. Ark, Roger Meno, Italian Boys, Latin Lover, Martinelli and others), can take advantage of the services, offered by sellers of bootleg produce, selling singles collection, styled as albums. In 1994 Miko Mission considerably surprised his former fans by releasing the single I can fly, featuring the fast Eurodance sound. one hardly seriously believed Miko Mission would make anything else after 1989. In less than two years there appeared another song, Mr. Blue, pretty much resembling the sound of its predecessor. Notwithstanding the fact that none of the two enjoyed much success, both ones came out bright, with a strong vocal and hit disco melodies, the last circumstance being designed to make an impression on old-school disco fans as well as on the young audience. In 1998, on the wave of the success of revived Modern Talking, from which many people drew their notion of Euro disco, there came out a lot of music material with new songs, remixes and compilations from the disco stars of the 80s. New editions of old songs were mainly produced at ZYX, whose managers recalled Miko Mission. The compilation titled The Greatest Remixed Hits (ZYX 10064-2) turned out to be of more interest than, for example, Best of Scotch or of Albert one, because, along with the early Miko Missions hits, 3 fresh remixes of the first three songs of the artist were included. Later How old are you? was again released, probably, for the old guard of disco freaks, a large part of whom are surely waiting for some other surprise from Miko Mission. 2003 by Vovchik, all rights reserved. |
